How to Best Choose Business Domain Name...

Choosing the right business domain name for your website can be crucial.
To help guide you with choosing the domain for your business, we offer the following
tips:

1)   When choosing (and buying) a website domain name for your business, always start with the .com main Top Level Domain (TLD. It may also be advisable to secure and buy the other TDL, .net (i.e., yourbusinessname.com, yourbusinessname.net).  This is not always necessary, though it would ensure that no one else on the worldwide web can come in later and capitalize on your brand name by using another domain name type.
Although there are dozens of TLD types available, we usually recommend to just get the .com and .net variants.  There's no harm buying more variants, for example, .org, however, do make sure you take care of the important ones.

2)   Since it is possible that in the future your business may grow and evolve into different areas of interest, or even change course altogether, you may want to consider not to make your business domain name too specific to one specific area.  However, you can always get other domain names at a later time.

3)   Keep your domain name as short as possible and simple - it needs to be memorable, and if at all possible, do not include hyphens.

4)   Although it is sometimes suggested to insert your major keywords into your domain name wherever possible to help with your search engine rankings, we do not subscribe to this view. There may be some small benefits in having some keywords in your domain name (e.g. "the-best-web-designers.com"), your web promotion efforts should come later. Your domain name should be chosen to best represent your company and your company’s interests rather than to please the search engines.

5)   Domain names can only contain letters, numbers, and dashes. Spaces and symbols are not allowed. Domain names are not case sensitive.

6)   It is advisable to choose a reputable domain name supplier. We also recommend choosing a company which provides an easy user interface so that you can manually edit your domain name details (i.e., email forwarding, transferring your domain name elsewhere).

7)   Ensure that your domain name is not a commonly known brand name or trademark. A name such as "Microsoftwebdesign.com" is not a good choice.

8)  Assure that you keep your contact information up-to-date. Although your domain name supplier is bound to contact you when a domain name comes up for renewal, it is your responsibility in the end. It is for this reason that we suggest to have a single domain name supplier.
